The Touchscreen is beginning to take over the workplace, creating a much more modern and productive working environment. From retail stores and restaurants to manufacturing companies and financial services companies, countless businesses now use touchscreen devices in their day-to-day operations. But How to how to pick a right touchscreen for your business? These 3 steps will help you choose one that meets all your needs:

1.What is the use case?

What is the main purpose and use case for your touchscreen display? Too often we have seen touchscreens collecting dust because the purpose of using it wasn’t clear from the beginning. Before you order a Touchscreen you need to make sure if it suits your application.

● As digital signage for Retail

Highly interactive digital signage displays are perfect for displaying engaging content such as videos, music, and promotions. They’re sure to grab the attention of customers and visitors in your store and facility.

Above are 2 different environments in which we see great value for using touchscreen displays. There are so many ideas about the application of the touch screen. What is yours?

2.Which touch technology?

Now, most touchscreen use either resistive or capacitive touch technology. Resistive touchscreen contains multiple layers separated by an inert “spacer” layer of air or gas. When touched, the upper and bottom layers make contact, thus allowing the monitor to identify the point of touch. Capacitive touchscreen identify touch by measuring changes in capacitance. It’s fast and more precise, popular.

Resistive vs. capacitive touchscreens

Resistive advantages:

Lower cost.

Can be Touched with bare finger, gloved finger, stylus, etc.

Do not respond to contact from outside stimuli (ex: dust and water splashes).

Capacitive advantages:

More scratch/abrasion-resistant.

Highly responsive.

Multi-touch is supported.

High contrast, great visual appearance.

3.What screen size? and Aspect Ratio?

What Size to choose depends a lot on the use case, how many people are in the place, and how far away from the screen they are. For presentation rooms, you would almost need to go for the largest screen size, or even connect it to a projector with a larger screen size. If you want to have a touchscreen for the session, a big screen also should be perfect for you, such as 55 inches or above.

In addition to size and touch technology, you should also consider the aspect ratio when choosing a touchscreen. Aspect ratio refers to the ratio of the display’s width to its height. 4:3 was once the dominant aspect ratio for monitors, but most modern monitors — including touchscreen ones — now use an aspect ratio of 16:9. At the same time, software adaptation issues should also be considered for different Aspect Ratio.
